Closest really steep hill to me is 17% for about 1/2 mile. Problem is it's fairly narrow and has two blind corners at the bottom so you have to brake fairly early on the straight bit. Got to 48 but lose nerve after that.

So I managed it today, stuck it on the end of a ride so I was properly warmed up for it. Turns out I am actually running a compact cos I'm on a noob bike, 50 - 35.

Here's the route, if you check the elevation profile (Show > Elevation profile) it's the final climb (pretty obvious!). Wasn't as bad as I thought, there were a couple of tight corners were my cadence dropped to like 2rpm but once I knew where I was I got fairly motivated to spin up it.

Managed to average just under 19mph too which I'm pretty pleased with considering I cooled it down prior to this final climb.

I'd always wondered how to shoe the elevation profile on bikely.
Looks like an arse, what's the gradient on it?

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/441572

Was one I did two laps of the other night, around 16/17% for a few hundred meters around 5km, killed me as I am shit on climbs.

Talking of hill climbs as well has any one got this?

It's 17% for pretty much all of it which is about 1.5 miles. Don't think I'll be doing it again in a hurry.

Fuck that!
I'm going out for 2, maybe 3 laps of that tomorrow morning if it's dry.
Best part is after the main climb, downhill all the way home pretty much, hopefully less traffic when I go tomorrow so I can hit 50.

climbing is challenging..

I tried to do all the climbs on my 50mi ride today out of the saddle to get used to being out of the saddle when climbing.. Doesn't half tire you out quicker, but you end up going quicker!

There aren't many decent climbs near me, as i'm on the coast and it's relatively flat.

BTW, as for elevation diagrams, use www.bikeroutetoaster.com instead of bikely.

Identical, apart from it has elevation.

Bikely doesn't (as far as i've found) do total climb/descent etc

Had a decent ride today, apart from the dire conditions.
Hit 3 decent size climbs, well for round here, first was the short sharp one on my 10mile route, then another long slog that really gets steep in the last 500.
Then some silly thing that sent the grade on my GPS mad, it's saying around 40%, but I'd say an average of around 19/20%.
Had about 1300ft of climbing in 19miles.

40pc? lol... 40UKMB percent more like..

which road is this? Care to plot that climb on bikely or something similar to see?

I don't have many decent climbs near me, but a short car journey sees me into north wales, where there are loads of climbs.

Still yet to go though, but i'd love to do this in a month or so.. http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/horseshoe-pass-ride

I don't think it's right at all, just thats what the data from my GPS says, more than likely lost signal then returned and realised I'd gone up another 10m or something, as I also had a max speed from that ride of 183mph, which was going under the motorway.
I'll stick it on bikely in a bit, my guestimates are probably miles out.

Be worth getting a copy of this

Can get it for around £7 from Play, I've got it and intend to tick off a few, problem is none are near me, a load in N.Wales though.

What GPS do you use then?

I've a Garmin Edge 305, with the HR strap and Cadence sensor.
It's pretty good and been able to have the data on hand to compare back makes it good to see how you've progressed.
Also you can upload/download routes to Bikely etc.
I do keep looking at the new Edge 500 though, just cause it looks a million times nicer.
